Research Field

My research interest is the interaction between policy and practices in education and international development. Issues include socio-political concerns in policy learning and transfer, global governance, inclusive practices, culture, and identity. I am keenly interested in studies on the role of arts in development, social justice, and people's well-being.
Area interests: Africa, Middle East, North America, Europe and Asia.

Recent Activities

As a member of the faculty, I teach advanced-level courses: International Cooperation and Development (I, II), International Education, Comparative Education, Education and International Development in Practice, and other relevant courses. They analyze the impact of globalization and social change on international development practices and the education sector. The Academic Advisor role entails advising students on their academic lives, such as course choices and study abroad. In the area of international development practices, I have worked as an expert and consultant for the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the UK Department for International Development (DfID).

    The aims of the project are: 1) to develop the theoretical explanation of the challenges of including arts and cultural approach in offender rehabilitation in Akita; 2) to draw out a policy implication for implementation of arts and culture in rehabilitation practices; and 3) to provide AIU students the experience of relevant practices of offender rehabilitation assistance in Akita.
