Education: Graduated from the University of Tokyo, Faculty of Law, 1972 L'Ecole Nationale d'Administration, France, 1974-75 He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1972 and served key positions such as Private Secretary to Minister for Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Tsutomu HATA, Foreign Affairs Sous-Sherpa for G8 Summit, Director General of Global Issues Department (the United Nations related issues), Director General of Economic Affairs, Ambassador to Egypt, Ambassador to the Arab League, and Ambassador to Canada. During his career, he was detached to universities and think tanks: The University of Tokyo, Visiting Professor to post graduate school and lectured Human Security, WASEDA University to lecture Europe, The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), London as research fellow, and The Japan Institute of International Affairs as Acting Director. He was also short listed for the Administrator of UNDP (among the final 3 candidates, together with Norwegian Development Minister and Turkish Finance Minister). After his retirement in 2013, he was Managing Director of a think tank, The Japan Forum on International Affairs until 2015, and since 2014 he is Member of the Board of Kawamura Gakuen (School for girls from kindergarten to University) and Specially Appointed Professor at Kawamura Gakuen Women's University.He also taught at Waseda University, Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, and Meiji University, Faculty of Political and Economic Sciences. He is also a member of the board of directors of The Society for Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy since 2015 and Managing Director of the Canada-Japan Society since 2013. He speaks Japanese, French and English.
