最近の活動

I joined the AIU's Global Studies faculty in the Fall of 2013 and oversee the development and completion of Senior-level capstone writing projects. I have also developed new courses, such as Social Movements, Visual Politics, Introduction to Political Thought and Politics and Society in Southeast Asia, which are closely aligned with my current writing projects. Each of these courses emphasizes the ubiquitous role of media and the creative potential for participating in social change. My recent work addresses the aesthetics of protest, contemporary Thai cinema and art, and the intersection of political expression and border subjectivity along Thailand's souther border. I also write about and participate in sound culture as it relates to the amplification of political voice, and documentary film-making in Hawai'i.

学生へのメッセージ

My approach to teaching is inspired by a) the ways events beyond the classroom trigger theories and methodologies of social, cultural, and political world(s) and b) the question of how the "political" is triggered in our everyday lives. As an educator, I would like to anticipate the varieties of global experience in order to engage the possibilities of global change.

    Sovereignty is the power of the decision in the context of the law. But self-determination is only a small part of how the elements fuse together. As Mauna Loa erupts, the lava flows, and rent rises, taro farmers in Kauaula Valley, Maui build a movement to safeguard their claims to ancestral lands. This research creates a visual record to elucidate the legal, historical, and social dynamics that keep this community intact.
